Tips for Throwing a Fun Baby Shower
So, your best friend is pregnant and you want to hold a fun and exciting baby shower, but where do you start? While holding a baby shower may seem like a daunting task, once you get started you’ll probably find that it is a lot easier and more fun that you thought it would be. However, if you are not sure where to begin, here are some great tips that will help you make sure that the baby shower you throw is a fun bash for the expectant mom you care about.
- Tip #1 – Pick a Date and Send Out Invitations – Most of the time you’ll want to make sure that you have the baby shower a couple months before the mother is due, so you’ll need to start looking for a great date. Talk to the people you are planning on inviting and find out when the best time is for the shower. Also, make sure that you’ll be able to get the mommy-to-be there as well. Once you come up with a great date and a good time, then send out the invitations a couple weeks in advance.
- Tip #2 – Come Up with a Great Theme – Since a theme can help you choose your games and decorations, you’ll want to come up with a great theme well before the date of the shower. There are many great baby shower themes for you to choose from. Having a great theme can set the tone for the entire party, so make sure your theme is fun. Consider finding out what the mother is decorating the baby’s room in, such as Disney Characters or Pooh, and then center your theme around this. Some other themes to consider include a couples theme, ruby ducky, nursery rhymes, or even a Noah’s Ark theme.
- Tip #3 – Pick Some Fun Games – If you’re having a baby shower that is going to last about two to three hours, then you’ll probably want to have about 4-5 different games to play to keep the party hopping. Make sure that your games don’t take too long though, since there needs to be time for food, presents, and congratulating the expectant mother. Make sure that you plan out the games in advance so you are well prepared for the party day. There are many excellent games that can add a lot of fun to your shower. Consider playing Baby Bingo, the Name Game where you come up with a baby name for each letter of the alphabet, the Famous Television Mom’s Game, or What’s in the Baby Basket game, where you have people guess all the items in a baby basket.
- Tip #4 – Decide on the Food – The food is an important part of the baby shower as well. You can just have a cake and a few snacks, a nice brunch, or a luncheon with sandwiches, fruits, cheeses, and more. You don’t have to go overboard, but make sure that the food you do choose is quality and tasty.
- Tip #5 – Purchase Baby Shower Favors – You definitely don’t want to leave out the baby shower favors either. Offering the guests baby shower favors is a great way to thank them all for coming and it will give them something fun to remember the day by as well. There are many great ideas for favors to choose from, and often this will depend on the baby shower theme that you pick. You can find adorable baby blocks that are filled with candy, cute baby slipper candles, votive holders, keychains, and a whole lot more.
- Tip #6 – Great Gifts – Of course showering the mother with great gifts is one of the important reasons to have the baby shower. There are many different gift ideas you can go with for a baby shower; however, more and more people are choosing to go with personalized baby gifts. Gifts that are personalized are one of a kind and they mean a lot to a mom-to-be. So, if you’re looking for great gifts for the baby shower, consider going with personalized baby gifts that the new mom is sure to love.
So, keep these simple tips in mind, and the baby shower is sure to be a great success. With great food, exciting games, excellent baby shower favors, and wonderful gifts, no doubt the mommy-to-be will be thrilled.
Great Baby Shower Games
If you are holding a baby shower for your loved one, one important part of the baby shower that you won’t want to overlook is the baby shower games. They can offer a lot of fun and some great laughs as well at any baby shower. Games work well for an icebreaker at the shower and they also provide a whole lot of entertainment as well that is sure to have everyone having a great time. So, if you’re looking for some games to use at the baby shower you’re planning, here are a few, that you may want to consider using yourself for some baby shower fun.
- Baby Shower Game #1 – Don’t Say “Baby” – This is a very popular game at many baby showers and it can provide a lot of fun for the entire baby shower. When every woman comes to the baby shower, she gets a baby safety pin of her own. However, everyone is instructed that the word, “Baby” is not allowed at the shower. If anyone says this word, the woman who catchers her gets her baby safety pin. This last throughout the entire shower, and at the end, the woman who has the most pins will win the prize.
- Baby Shower Game #2 – The Name Game – The Name Game is a fun game to play as well that will get everyone thinking. Give every one a sheet of paper, and then have them write all the letters of the alphabet on it. Depending on the gender of the baby, you’ll have them try to write down a name for every letter within five minutes. If the baby is a boy, it will be boys’ names and if the baby will be a girl, you’ll use girls’ names. The person who gets the most unique names that no one else has will win the game.
- Baby Shower Game #3 – Guess What’s in the Basket – This is another fun baby shower game to play. Before the baby shower, you’ll want to take a basket and fill it full of baby items, such as pacifiers, blankets, bottles, baby foods, and more. Put about 20-25 different things in the basket. Then, pass the basket around and let everyone in the room have a few moments to look in the basket to see what is there. Pass out sheets of paper, and then give them 2-3 minutes to write down as many things as they can remember that are in the basket. The person who can remember the most things will win.
- Baby Shower Game #4 – Nursery Rhyme Game – Most people think they known their nursery rhymes well, but this game will challenge how well you really do. Type of a sheet of nursery rhymes, leaving blanks or purchase a book that offers this game. Put about 15 questions on the paper. Everyone will get a paper and then they’ll have to fill in the blanks to complete the nursery rhyme. You’ll see who can actually get them all right, and whoever does will win the prize.
